Autobahn For All Sales Event - now that is a name we at AutoBahnShop.com can get behind! Aimed at conveying the spirit of a Volkswagen - a car for the people - the VW Autobahn For All Sales Event tries to make the point that in tough economic times cars - in this case Volkswagens, are still affordable to buy.
In their 2009 tv commercials Volkswagen use humor to imply that by trusting yourself you'll be thankful in the future. Well we don't know about that. After all, they are trying to sell VW Jettas, Golfs, Passats, CCs and the like. Their 2010 campaign is a bit more straightforward with a bunch of cops sitting around worrying about folks driving all the VW models like they were out on the real autobahn. Yea, right.
The classic 1964 Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in the James Bond movies Thunderball and Goldfinger, is going up for sale in London. The car is one of several that appeared in the legendary action adventure spy films, but it seems it is the only survivor.
The DB5 was purchased by its current owner, DJ Jerry Lee, from Aston Martin in 1969 after appearing in the Bond films.
It has passed the time in storage and apparently benefited from excellent care. Most and perhaps all of the famous Q-invented Bond gadgets like the tire-ripping hub caps, rotating license plates, bullet-proof armor shield, machine guns behind the lights and who knows what else, are all shown to be working in this video of the car. The plates sport the Bond-like sequence JB 007 and 007 JB.
A new beast is coming from BMW - the BMW 1 Series M Coupé or M1 to some (but not to BMW - read below)... a car that BMW says will be the M series car for everyman... okay, at least more affordable for more men (and women) than other M series cars.
As you will see from the interview below, more details about the BMW 1 Series M Coupé will be coming in the Christmas 2010 time frame, while cars will be in customer hands by the second half of 2011.
Here is some insight into the origins of the new BMW 1 Series M Coupé and why BMW is not calling it the M1 as you might expect.
These are excerpts from an interview with Dr. Kay Segler, head of BMW M GmbH - the BMW M series brain trust:
Why is there nothing like this today?
All models grow, have more equipment features and options which can be freely chosen. Ultimately this is reflected in the vehicle dimensions, weight and price, too. This is why it is one of my most urgent goals to offer a small, affordable M model in the tradition of the very first BMW M3.
