Great book for Porsche 993 owners! February 5, 2006 Philip Picuri (Switzerland) 31 out of 31 found this review helpful
Finally, a great book for a great car, the Porsche 993. Adrian has done a teriffic job of compiling all the information you could possibly want to know about the Porsche 993, the ultimate air-cooled Porsche. I own a Porsche 993 Carrera 4S, and have really been searching for a good book on the 993. Most of the books I have seen are just your usual, glossy, coffee table books, with lots of neat photos, but no meat and substance in respect to technical information. This book has a wealth of information, very well presented, in a concise manner and accompanied by photos and diagrams. It really tells you all you need to know on this wonderful car, and am sure that it will also save you money in the long run, whether you are looking for a used 993, or are considering tuning, or want to do an oil change yourself. All about the engine, running gear, suspension, wheels, etc. This one single book is better and has more useful information than all the previous books on Porsche I ever owned! Highly recommended!
This is the Only Book you will need! March 21, 2006 Jeffrey R. Brister (Woodbine, Maryland) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I realize that this is the only book currently on the market for the 993, aside from spending a small fortune on the actual shop manuals (on CD's), but after receiving the book and spending several nights giving it a good read, I have come to the conclusion that someone will be hard pressed to put together anything so accurate and complete. This is a must for any 993 owner!
The title does not exaggerate... August 24, 2006 pSmith (Houston) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
There are two types of 993 owners...the driving enthusiast and the poseur. For the latter group, this book would be a waste of time. For the former, however, this is indeed an "essential companion." Whether the owner's interest in his car is the history, the esoterica of 993 numerology and variation, and/or owner-maintenance and repair, this book covers the ground with alacrity. This is the Porsche equivalent to John Muir's well-known VW book, and as such is an important part of the 993 enthusiast's reference library.
needed addition to 993 repair literature June 26, 2007 R. A. Rodriguez (san antonio, texas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Overall, a good addition to the literature. Not so detailed that it stands ALONE as a repair resource, but with Pelican, Excellence, Panorama and the various web sites offering 993 information, adds more complete information for the do-it yourself mechanic. Of my reference books, this is perhaps the most comprehensive, specifically for the 993 (other than the factory manuals). An easy read, usually clearly written, yet at times too abbreviated. (Cabrio top repair, for example) First 100 pages deal with "styles" of 993 offered. Contains torque specs. Some info is nothing more than "owners manual" info. Nontheless, I am happy to have added this volume to my library!
Best book on the market for the Porsche 993 November 5, 2006 Frank the Tech Head (North Georgia Mountains) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you buy this book, you better enjoy reading, the book is massive. The layout and organization is very good, easy to understand and the index makes it easy to specifically find what you are looking for. The only drawback is the book was written in Queens English which made it a little interesting when the book referred to such things as a "bonnet" instead of a hood, etc. The book provided the correct mix of technical info in easy to understand layman terms. You will not be sorry you purchased this book.
